Konzertstück for four Horns and Orchestra

As some of you will know, I play the French Horn. It is a fine instrument capable of soaring highs and shattering depths, but there isn't really much concerto repertoire out there for the Horn. Unlike the Piano or Violin, there aren't hundreds or thousands of concertos. There are about seven which are well known and you might get up to 50 if you count everything regardless of quality.

Even, seemingly, wackier than a concerto for Horn is a concerto for four Horns. But Schumann was "up for it". So there's this concerto with four solo parts for four horns and then the usual orchestral parts as well. And I'm playing the second solo part!

The Imperial Sinfonietta orchestra are giving their concert on Friday, 7th December at 8pm in the Great Hall at Imperial, South Kensington. The programme includes the Konzertstück as the second piece in the first half with Shostakovich's mighty and very popular 5th Symphony as the second half.

If you're not otherwise busy, engaged or determined to cause harm to your liver, please come along. Tickets should be available on the door except if we've managed to pre-sellout the concert, which is unlikely. This a fairly rare piece, seldom performed but providing vastly more entertainment than Rach's 2nd Piano Conc., or Bruch's Violin Conc... Be there!
